Payment is to be made in full at the time of booking to secure your campervan hire.
Bond is to be paid 24 hours before the commencement of hire period.
Guests can cancel up to 7 days before check-in and get a 50% refund of the nightly rate, and the cleaning fee, but not the service fee.
If vehicle is returned early for any reason there are no refunds for the unused rental days.
Altering a Booking
Booking extensions can be made where there is availability at the relevant nightly rates.
Shortening your stay once confirmed:
Within 7 days of booking period – no refund for days not required
Up to 7 days before booking period - 50% refund on days not required
Early pick up/Late Return
Guests can request an early check in from 8am for an additional $34. Guests can request a late check out fee until 6pm for an additional $34. These must be pre-arranged with Big Bertha Campers prior to the commencement of the booking and are subject to availability.
Late return fee:
Up to 2 hours after designated return time $34
Over 2 hours after designated return time – full days hire.
For every day past the due date that the van is late, the customer will incur the maximum daily rate for that vehicle, plus the normal daily rent in order to cover the potential loss of rental income. Failure to return the vehicle and failure to communicate with Big Bertha Campers will result in the camper been reported stolen to the police. The renter will be liable for all retrieval costs.
Area of Travel
Rentals on the East Coast are to the area between Adelaide in South Australia and Cape Tribulation (north of Cairns) in Queensland that is within 250km of the coast.
Vehicles are to be strictly driven on sealed roads at all times (tar, asphalt and concrete).
All vehicles may only be driven on recognised roads as shown on maps. Driving on unsealed roads up to 500 metres to a camp site or rest area is permitted.
All insurance and refundable money is waived if the above conditions are breached. Any damage and/or recovery costs are the responsibility of the renter.
East Coast travel of Australia only, unless authorised.
All repairs must be authorised by Big Bertha Campers prior to any repair work. Repairs will be approved provided the renter was not directly responsible for the damage. We will not accept any responsibility for any out of pocket expenses, in the case of breakdowns or for any lost days, but we will reimburse lost days hire.
All our campervans are fitted with E-tags or video pass for your convenience, you will be charged at the end of hire for toll costs.
We reserve the right to charge the renter an administration fee of $99 for any traffic or parking infringements that are not paid by the hirer, in addition to the total cost of the infringement.
Payment and booking fees
We only accept MasterCard and Visa.
Each booking will incur a 7% service fee
Exchange Rate/Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars, due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared with the rate initially charged. We will not accept any liability for this.
Bond Deposit/Vehicle Excess
A bond is required on all vehicles prior to collection. This is determined by the excess reduction option. Your security bond can be paid by credit card. The cardholder is liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. The security bond is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged, in clean order, with the correct amount of fuel and to the right location. Failure to comply will incur a fee which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.
In the event of an accident in which you are not at fault, we will hold your bond until the 3rd party agrees to pay our costs. Once these costs are met we will refund to you your bond less admin fees and expenses, and loss of rental.Where we are unable to recover costs then it is the renter who is responsible to recover the excess money from the third party.
The renter is responsible for the excess of the cost of damage to their rented vehicle or third party property, including: towing, recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off road for accident repairs. The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident, not at the completion of the rental.
f a third party is at fault then the renter will be responsible to recover his or her loss from the third party.
All damage covered is forfeited if the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are breached.
The renter will be responsible for paying the insurance excess ONLY if the vehicle hired or other vehicles have sustained damaged as a result of collision.
Bond required $900
Standard Liability $900 – Total amount to be paid in the event of damage
Under 25 additional excess $950 – Additional amount to be paid on top of standard liability if renter is under 25 years old and damage occurs
No damage $900 full refund of bond upon return of the vehicle undamaged
All insurance cover will be made void if any of the following are breached:
· Submersion in water
· Contact with Salt Water
· Creek or river crossings
· Driving through flooded areas
· Beach driving
Items not covered
· Personal belongings are not covered. We recommend the renter does not leave valuables in the vehicle and should take out personal or travel insurance.
· Breach of Rental Agreements terms. The renter will be responsible for the total cost any damage. This will include any damage caused by wilful conduct
· Bogged vehicles – The renter will be responsible for the cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged
· Incorrect use of fuel – The renter will be responsible for any associated cost if fuel is used incorrectly (fuel being diesel or petrol). Includes any associated costs related to the incident
· Under body damage or overhead damage
· The cost to replace keys which have become lost or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle
· Any damage caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and excess of $2,500.00 will apply regardless of bond paid.
· The vehicle rented may only be used to legally carry the amount of passengers allowed. If more passengers are carried than allowed, Big Bertha Campers does not accept any responsibility or liability
· Drivers not identified on the rental agreement
· The carrying of illegal or dangerous goods.
The renter is responsible for any recovery costs incurred through negligence regardless of the insurance excess.
The vehicle will be inspected by Big Bertha Campers prior to the hire by the renter. Any damage will be noted into our systems for future reference.
Upon return of the vehicle Big Bertha Campers will inspect the vehicle for any damage sustained during hire.
Final inspection of returned vehicle will be completed within 24 hours of return of the vehicle and bond return will be issued upon clearance of this inspection.
The Hirer will be responsible for full cost of replacing keys which are lost or broken or for the retrieval of keys locked in a vehicle where roadside assist cannot retrieve. In the event a Locksmith is required to attend, all costs associated will be the responsibility of the renter.
Malfunction of Equipment
Malfunction of radio/cassette players, DVD, stoves, air-conditioning, refrigerator, water pumps are not considered a mechanical breakdown as the vehicle is still able to continue driving during your holiday. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during the duration of these malfunctions. If one of these items does go wrong, then they can only be inspected by an authorised repairer of our choice.
If equipment is malfunctioning it is the responsibility of the renter to inform Big Bertha Campers so the problem can be resolved.
Night Time Driving
Driving in rural and non-built up areas from sunset to sunrise heavily increases your chance of hitting an animal. If an animal runs out in front of you do not swerve! Any damage to the vehicle as a result of an animal hit will result in the forfeit of bond.
A Minimum 2 day hire is required for our Bertha, Beryl and Betty campers. A 4 day minimum hire is required for our Bernie camper. Minimum hire periods for New Years, Easter and Splendour in the Grass festival apply to all campers.
Change of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, the hirer may choose between an alternate campervan if one is available, or a full refund
An additional cleaning fee is imposed if the vehicle is not returned in a reasonable condition.
Reasonable condition been: vehicle is swept out, all dishes are clean, food items are removed from fridge and fridge is wiped out and turned off, all personal items and rubbish is removed from the van.
If the vehicle is deemed to be in an unsatisfactory condition, the renter will incur costs according to time spent cleaning vehicle to a satisfactory condition.
No smoking is permitted in the campervan under any circumstance.
If smoking has occurred in the van the renter will be responsible for paying a charge of $400

Terms of Booking on This Website
By booking through this website you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions available to you which are clear and concise and readable in English format.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, our cancellation policy will come into effect, the terms in which were agreed upon by the renter at the time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking and we will work to resolve any issues.
Repairs and Breakdowns
If you experience any problems, even minor, you must contact Big Bertha Campers for assistance and advice.
Big Bertha Campers will not cover any expenses for repair work taken out by a 3rd party at the instruction of the renter without prior approval by Big Bertha Campers.
We will approve repairs provided the renter was not directly responsible for the damage. Tax invoices must be submitted or the claim will not be paid.
Oil and Water Levels
The hirer/driver is not required to check oil or water levels or any components in the engine compartment prior to departure. All campers are checked prior to your rental.
During hire period, if travelling long distances or when hiring for longer than 5 days, the renter must check oil and coolant levels to ensure the functionality of the vehicle. In the event that oil or coolant is not provided in the van the renter will be reimbursed for the purchase of products providing they supply the relevant tax invoices.
Where the renter is unsure on how to top up coolant and oil they are required to contact Big Bertha Campers for instructions.
In the event the renter has incorrectly administered these products, any resulting damage and costs will be the responsibility of the renter.
It is the renter’s responsibility to monitor all warning systems including lights, gauges and buzzers. If any of the warnings occur such as rising temperature gauge from its normal position, oil warning light or any dashboard lights or if it has a loss of power or the vehicle makes strange noises or for any reason you are unsure YOU MUST STOP THE CAMPERVAN AND CONTACT BIG BERTHA CAMPERS IMMEDIATELY, IF YOU CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND CAUSE ENGINE OR DRIVELINE DAMAGE YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS.
Damage or mechanical failure of the vehicle
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period. Big Bertha Campers will not be held responsible for customers travel plans and its inclusions (pre-organised tours, flights, etc) due to vehicle repairs or breakdowns.
Procedure in the event of an accident
If the customer is involved in a motor vehicle accident whilst on hire, the following procedures should be followed:
(a) At the scene of the accident the customer must:
1. Obtain the names, license number, phone number and addresses of Third Parties and any witnesses.
2. Report the accident to police, regardless of estimated damage costs.
3. Not accept blame or insist the other party is at fault.
4. If possible, photograph damage to all vehicle(s) and registration number(s).
5. Phone Big Bertha Campers with the accident details within 24 hours.
(b) When returning the vehicle
1. The customer must produce their Driver’s Licence and hand over the police report (if applicable) and any supporting photographs.
2. The customer is required to pay the liability and any other amount due by them in respect of any damage arising from an accident, loss or damage. This amount is payable at the time of reporting ‘the event’ and not at completion of the rental period.
3. The customer will pay Big Bertha Campers the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs up to the bond amount chosen.
4. Big Bertha Campers will solely communicate with the insurance company.
Important note: Under no circumstances should the customer attempt to start or drive a vehicle that has been involved in an accident, damaged by rollover, water submersion or any other means without permission from Big Bertha Campers.
